Cut From the Heart, 2025
I collect picture books of plants and flowers, as well as
fan books of male pop stars such as Justin Bieber, BTS,
and Leonardo DiCaprio, from Helsinki recycling
centers.
The idea for these images of men with flowers
emerged while contemplating traditional hair models,
the male gaze, male beauty, and the analog process
amidst a technological revolution.
In improvisational assemblage, there is a moment
when elements come together in a way that forms
new connections and constructs new meanings.
The work is driven by a post humanistic impulse to
partner with materials in bringing new life to what has
been abandoned or discarded.
