Contrapasso/ The Body of the Artist
I am bound to an armature that forces my body to maintain a classical pose, contrapasso, like Michelangelo’s David. I maintain the pose for five continuous hours.
Contrapasso: The Body of the Artist is the struggle across the boundaries that separates me from you. By retreating into the classical standard I assume a posture of submission. I am blindfolded and unable to return your gaze.
Do not despair. I am wearing an earpiece connected to my cell phone which I hold in my hand. I invite you to call me during the performance to tell me how you feel. I will not respond because my mouth is gagged but I will listen to you.
